Americans do often not know how many
stamps it takes to send a letter to Switzerland.
It takes 14 stamps. - And the content
of this letter rocks:
Dear WWOOF Switzerland,
My name is …, I am .. years old, born
in … and I live in … . I have a bachelors of Arts in
Film and Digital Media and have been working as as a
freelance editor.
I am currently seeking new outlets
for my ever-growing love and respect for local organic
farming. Our city has a great outlet for urban farming,
however I am feeling the urge to get out in the country
and experience something new.
In 2009 I joined WWOOF Italia. I
wwoofed at four incredible farms and had the time of my
life. This experience changed my life, especially the
work at one particular farm, where I worked with cheese
and goats and learned the trades of shepherding and
artisanal cheese making.
During my travels I made it to
Switzerland and made several friends whom I still am in
touch with. They have encouraged me to come and visit
them and I want to take the opportunity of a trip to
Switzerland to WWOOF in a farm. Preferably a farm that
makes cheese and has animals.
I think WWOOF is a fantastic
organization that is improving the global community. I
respect the work of the farmers and organizers, which is
why I give you my word that I will follow all the WWOOF
guidelines and make my work as useful to the farmer as I
can.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely
...
If you do not know why you want to go wwoofing, but
still need a letter to join your applicaton, you can
copy the letter above in handwriting and filling in the
dotted spaces with your data. But be aware, this may
change your life.

out. The kakis will be ripe in December.
23.1.2010 Dear WWOOF, It was our first
season we had Wwoofers. We could enjoy interesting people,
and we received active help. In summer we had two Americans
with us and later a yound man from Scottland. All three were
very motivated and friendly. Therefore we are very curious
to see what and who the new season will bring us. Thanks for
making WWOOF and regards from Mareike and Urs

15.7.2009 A special note to Americans from
US: An air letter to Switzerland costs only a few $ (I will
look up how much exactly). Do not send it Priority Mail for
$12.95 or Express Mail for $27.95. We are not lowering the
fees that you can spend the money on expensive mail services.
In addition we will collect those registered letters during
opening times only once a week. So in the end you will wait
longer.
22.5.2009 European WWOOF coordinators are
meeting in Värmland, Sweden. Attending are people from
Bulgaria, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland,
Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldovia, Polen,
Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
At the meeting we agreed to collaborate
more in future. Therefore WWOOF Switzerland is now again
lowering the membership fee for volunteers who are already
valid members of an other WWOOF organization: 5 Euro cash
(incl. postage within Europe), if sent in the same letter
with the complete application.
19.5.2009 We are on the way to the European
coordinators meeting in Sweden and we are having a
great time with a host near Stockholm.
4.5.2009 Machiko has made Sushi for

September 2008
My name is Elizabeth. My parents took us on
vacation every summer to the same place so I never had the
opportunity to explore new places until the decision was
mine. My family is from Ireland originally, so for my first
trip outside or the United States, I spent three weeks
meeting all of my extended family all over Ireland, 13
different housholds. Some of them live on farms and I had
the opportunity to help around the farm, shoveling meal,
milking cows, collecting eggs and doing general daily duties.
It was an experience I will never forget.
Greetings from New Zealand:
Hello. My name is Chelsea. I am 28 years of age. I WWOOFed
for the first time in Canada 5 years ago. My life has never
been the same since. I have been on farms ever since. I
realized through that first season I had found connection
between myself and the environment. I have been practicing
that connection through goat milking, cultivating medicinal
herbs, making cheese and bread, chopping wood, prunning, and
many other homesteading activities. I find the work in
exchange for food and bed to be highly rewarding. Every
family I have WWOOFed for has equally benefited from my
cheerful attitude and dedicated work.

Oh yes, we can't forget our
WWOOF host report:
Reinhard, an authentic eclectic philosopher is always up to
something and a real pleasure to associate with. His
residence is a true international center and we enjoyed him,
his "hotel", our day trip to Bellinzona, and all the other
inmates. Our introduction was getting past the "attack" dog
on our arrival, meeting the sole resident, an Argentinean
ballet dancer with whom we could only converse in our
halting, 30 year old school Spanish.
Elisangela is a real sweetie. The plastic bottle and
agriculture police will be checking on the new parsley, dill,
and lettuce garden to make sure it is properly cared for –
Schnee or not. Note: The artifacts discovered in digging up
the garden are to be donated to the local museum. That will
be simpler than dealing with the recycling police and can
also count as a charitable tax contribution. I discovered
there was a pronged spade, like the one we discussed, in the
very bottom of the tool box and used it for digging up the
garden.
Alfred and Silvia's
Schwalbenhof farm was an excellent experience from start to
finish. It is a busy, well run organic farm combining
modern and traditional methods. We learned a lot and
enjoyed their family, friends, and people from the community.
We got a practical introduction to the care of cows, horses,
pigs, chickens, potatoes, carrots, onions, corn, apples,
pears, hay, leaks, cabbage, green chard, red chard,
strawberries, the rare farm pixie, and Alfred senior.
Sometimes we were busy and other times we were not. During
quiet times I often found myself asking if there was
anything I could do – which sometimes resulted in unexpected
activities – like making mashed potatoes for the two pigs in
a wood fired boiler, or just taking pictures of the farm and
farming activities. I took pictures of everything and have
just completed paring them down to 100, Photoshoping them,
and puttng them on a flash drive to mail back to the farm.
The president of our Swiss club publishes a monthly
newsletter and our stay at Schwalbenhof experience is on the
front page. We will be showing the pictures and describing
our stay at the next meeting.

with WWOOFing (which should not be commercial). It has
been reserved by a black sheep of the WWOOF movement

generated by clicks. On that website you will keep
clicking and maybe never find the real WWOOF
